About the program

You have successfully completed university or college - and now? The trainee program at Novelis Europe offers you the chance to gain exciting insights into an international company right at the beginning of your professional path.

A dynamic environment, Europe-wide stations, digital and interactive learning units: in 18 months of Engineering Development Programme (EDP) you can expect a wide range of development opportunities in the technical field. During the rotations, you will get to know new functions and work on cross-departmental projects - this way, you learn more about other areas outside your assigned field. In regular exchanges with trainees from other regions, you will benefit from the international wealth of experience of the other participants and can build up a broad network. The trainee program at Novelis is a mixture of hands-on learning in your own area, virtual training sessions and international learning weeks with the entire EDP class.

About us

We love scrap!

Why?

At Novelis, the focus is on sustainability and recycling. For example, to be able to produce new aluminium from old beverage cans, we need as many cans as possible that can be fed back into the cycle. Therefore, aluminium scrap is of great importance to us. Because this scrap is not conventional waste, but a valuable raw material, since aluminium can be recycled infinitely without loss of quality.

Novelis is a leading producer of flat-rolled aluminium and the world's largest recycler of aluminium. In Nachterstedt, Saxony-Anhalt, we operate the largest and technologically most advanced aluminium recycling plant in Europe. Up to 400,000 tons of aluminium scrap can be processed here annually.
We encounter aluminium in our daily lives more often than we think, for example in beverage and cosmetic cans, car body parts such as hoods and doors, fuselage and wing structural components for aircraft, aluminium facades or aluminium coffee capsules.

This allows us to return more resources to the production cycle and save waste. In doing so, we hope to create a more sustainable future and a change from how we live today.

Novelis is the world biggest recycler of Aluminium.

We focus on returning aluminium that has already been in the loop back into the system. In this way, we do our part to ensure that the beverage can, for example, is back on the supermarket shelf within 60 days. We also thoroughly sort the supposed scrap and ensure that the materials can be reused. Recycling is also a real energy saver: Compared to the production of primary aluminium, recycling requires 95% less energy.

Your trainee at the Göttingen site
Locationinfo: The Göttingen plant in central Germany is an important European site for the production of beverage can stock and surface-treated aluminium for many attractive markets and employs around 700 people. It specializes in the surface treatment of aluminium coil stock and includes a research and development center primarily concerned with the study and development of surface coatings and the simulation of end-product manufacturing at the customer's site. In addition, the Göttingen plant supplies extruded bottles, cartridges, and cases for the automotive, construction, pharmaceutical, food and chemical industries.

Novelis is committed to the local community and works in numerous collaborations with schools to promote math and science education as well as robotics competitions and workshops.
